Her ne kadar \u0130stanbul\u2019daki k\u00fclt\u00fcr\u00fc, T\u00fcrk\u00e7e\u2019yi ve g\u00fcnl\u00fck ya\u015fam\u0131n t\u00fcm detaylar\u0131n\u0131 \u00f6\u011frenmi\u015f olsa da, Hristiyan ahalinin Osmanl\u0131 dahilindeki ya\u015fam ko\u015fullar\u0131 ve imkanlar\u0131 konusunda, Saray ile ters d\u00fc\u015ft\u00fc\u011f\u00fcnden, \u0130stanbul\u2019da daha fazla kalamayarak, Eyl\u00fcl 1615\u2019de oradan ayr\u0131larak, seyahatine devam eder.<\/p>\n<p>Della Valle her gitti\u011fi yerden, dostu profes\u00f6r Schipano\u2019ya ya\u015fad\u0131klar\u0131n\u0131 ve izlenimlerini mektup yazarak aktar\u0131r. K\u0131sa bir zaman burada kalan seyyah, methini duydu\u011fu ve Osmanl\u0131lar ile olan sava\u015f\u0131ndan dolay\u0131 hayran oldu\u011fu \u0130ran\u2019\u0131n h\u00fck\u00fcmdar\u0131 \u015eah Abbas\u2019\u0131 da g\u00f6rmek i\u00e7in, Suriye \u00fczeri yola \u00e7\u0131kar. Yolu \u00fczerindeki Ba\u011fdat\u2019\u0131n k\u00fclt\u00fcrel ve tarihi zenginlikleri incelemeye koyulur. \u00d6yle ki denk geldi\u011fi Asur d\u00f6nemine ait kil tabletleri \u0130talya\u2019ya g\u00f6ndererek, Avrupa\u2019n\u0131n Babil medeniyeti ile tan\u0131\u015fmas\u0131n\u0131n \u00f6n\u00fcn\u00fc a\u00e7ar. Ba\u011fdat\u2019taki konaklama zaman\u0131 i\u00e7erisinde babas\u0131 Mardin S\u00fcryani\u2019si, annesi Diyarbekir (Amid) Ermeni\u2019si olan, on sekiz ya\u015f\u0131ndaki Mardin do\u011fumlu Sitti Maani Cuveyra ile tan\u0131\u015f\u0131r. Matti ve ailesi 14 sene \u00f6nce ya\u015fad\u0131klar\u0131 yerin bir K\u00fcrd a\u015fireti taraf\u0131ndan sald\u0131r\u0131ya u\u011framas\u0131 sonucu, Ba\u011fdat\u2019a g\u00f6\u00e7m\u00fc\u015f Nasturi bir ailedir. Ailenin de sevgisi ve onay\u0131n\u0131 kazanan Della Valle, Sitti Maani ile evlenir.<\/p>\n<p>Sitti ve ailesinin \u015eah\u2019\u0131 tan\u0131yor olmalar\u0131ndan dolay\u0131, e\u015fi ile birlikte \u015eah Abbas ile tan\u0131\u015fmak \u00fczere, \u0130ran\u2019a do\u011fru yolculu\u011funa devam eder. 19 Ocak 1617\u2019de \u0130ran\u2019a gelip \u015eah Abbas ile tan\u0131\u015fan seyyah Della Valle, zamanla sahip oldu\u011fu askeri tecr\u00fcbe ve tavsiyelerinden \u00f6t\u00fcr\u00fc \u00fc\u00e7 sene boyunca \u015eah\u2019\u0131n Erdebil\u2019deki ordusunda g\u00f6rev alarak, alt\u0131 sene boyunca \u0130ran\u2019da kal\u0131r. \u00d6yle ki Osmanl\u0131 \u2013 \u0130ran sava\u015f\u0131nda dahi bulunarak izler \u00e7arp\u0131\u015fmay\u0131. Della Valle 17 Mart 1617 tarihi att\u0131\u011f\u0131 bu mektubunu, \u0130ran\u2019\u0131n \u0130sfahan \u015fehrinden profes\u00f6r dostu Schipano\u2019ya g\u00f6ndermi\u015ftir.
